Today I interviewed with Elle Magazine ahead of His Majesty King Charles' Coronation to talk about the impact his charity trust, The Prince's Trust has had on my life, and success as a young business woman.
I have always been passionate about providing care, since I began looking after my aunt with my mum who developed dementia. This was a founding reason I wanted to go on to work in a caring capacity, at that time as a Doctor. Unfortunately I struggled with the pressure of my studies and moving to a new sixth form and became unwell with stress, leading to an eating disorder which later caused me to have to drop out before finishing my a-levels. At 18, I left school with no qualifications feeling very lonely, isolated and unsure on where to go next. After working to get my health back on track now that I was no longer overstretched by the pressure from my education, I got a job as a carer and started to notice a vital gap in the care industry, recognising that there are lots of people who need extra time and services in addition to the standard care responsibilities. These would usually be things such as having some one to share a cup of tea and a conversation with, or trying to work out how to successfully apply for a benefit we really need. Applications can be confusing for the best of us, and these are things that often, when given the right help and support to complete and send them off, can really improve someone's quality of life. It was here I got the idea to start my own business, Farrow Friends - a home-help, befriending and support service for the elderly.
It was thanks to the help and support of The Prince's Trust in 2016 (who support young people aged between 18-30 to start a business) that I was able to put this idea into motion and make it into the successful company it is today, supporting over 200 clients with a dedicated and passionate team of 30 people.
