Connecting over Coffee. My Nescafe Azera Competition Win and Be The Silver Lining Charity Launch

Ok- so, I have a confession to make! I've been keeping a huge secret from you all...

The secret I've been keeping for so long is finally out! I’m thrilled to share that I’ve been working on an incredible collaboration with Nescafé Azera and The Princes Trust, and currently hitting the shelves across the UK, is a limited Edition coffee tin designed by me - it has my name on it and everything! I am so excited and honoured to have been chosen as one of the winning designs and it's incredible seeing these tins available to buy in local stores.

Each year Nescafe Azera and the Princes Trust offer an opportunity for those to submit a design based on a brief. This year, it was 'Connecting over Coffee.' Following from the Loneliness campaign I ran through my company at Farrow Friends (An organisation that came to life with the support of the Prince's Trust) where I hosted the Care Chair and befriending service, this seemed like an opportunity I couldn't allow to pass with a theme that ties so well into a subject that I feel is so important, especially in our elderly community- connection.

Introducing the design: ‘The Silver Lining’

My design is inspired by the idea of connection, warmth, and bringing people together over coffee. My hope is that you’ll pick up this special tin, share a coffee with a lonely older person, and in doing so, ‘be the silver lining of their day’. This tin is inspired by the work of my recent winter campaign and the art of kintsugi (mending things with gold- a Japenese artform that signifies mending and building relationships, and making things better by showing the work that went into their repair) but using silver, to signify silver linings. As a carer, we are often looking for positive elements of difficult situations, and so this seemed like a really fitting element to the design.

I’ve always been deeply passionate about the wellbeing of our elderly community especially through my work within Farrow Friends, and with this collaboration, I have a real opportunity to make a national difference. I hope this tin inspires you to think of an elderly person who might benefit from a bit of time and conversation from you, and incentivise you to drop in spontaneously on them to brighten their day.

I’m also proud to announce that, off the back of this project (and to act as a legacy for when the tins have sold out) I’ve founded a new charitable not-for-profit organisation called ‘Be The Silver Lining’. My mission is to alleviate loneliness in our communities by creating meaningful connections (over coffee and probably cake of course!).

You can find lots of information about my new organisation at www.bethesilverlining.org.uk

This is such a special project to me, and I truly believe it can make a positive impact. You can find my limited-edition tin in stores across the entirety of UK, and in the coming weeks, I’ll be sharing more about it, the new organisation, and how you can get involved. I hope it inspires you to connect, share, and ‘be the silver lining’ in someone else’s day.

Thank you so much for all your support!!…Here’s to making a difference, one cup of coffee at a time!
