Celebrating International Women's Day at the House of Lords with Small Business Britain and F-Entrepreneur

The 8th of March marks a significant day for many people around the globe. It celebrates the contribution, influences and successes of women in our past and, the women who continue to inspire and pave the way in research, human rights policies and advocacy in the present so that we can provide a better world for the woman of the future.

International Women's Day is a day I always celebrate with pride and admiration. Celebrating my successes, the successes of my staff team and additionally the successes of women all around me that are the driving force in multiple industries and career routes. I was so incredibly excited therefore, to be invited to attend a lunch at the House of Lords hosted by the F-Entrepreneur campaign and Small Business Britain; so that I could hear and celebrate the success journeys of other equally passionate women in business.

The weather was as stunning as the day itself, from the view across the Thames river I could see little rivers of silver across the tips of the current in the lake as the sun cascaded across them. As I meandered around the beautiful carefully baked canapes that were provided as part of the lunch, I was able to take in one of Britain's most bespoke and historical buildings while learning about people's challenges, successes and the barriers they've each overcome on their journey to success.

There's something I always find incredibly fulfilling in hearing about the ambitious work of other women paving the way in their own specialized fields of work especially on a day where we reflect on the women that brought us here in order to be able to embark on these opportunities. Seeing not just how far we've come since our history, but also how far we could go and the positive mindset we collectively have to work together to set us on the pathway there fills me with a sense of ambition and determination. International Women's Day will always have an important role to play, and is a big driving force behind people pioneering for changes in policy, human rights inclusion and research in how we can provide a better and kinder world for our children and children's children. This year particularly, I've seen some exciting new developments in workplace policy, research and campaigns particularly focusing on women's health. These include workplace rights for women experiencing abnormal periods/menstrual conditions and women who need reasonable adjustments through menopause. I've also seen campaigns emerging for better research in female healthcare treatment and practices, to ensure women are receiving better care. One thing particularly, that I am really excited to see isn't just these projects emerging- but the positivity and support for each of these studies and campaigns which is reflective of a cultural change in the way we look at rights and ways we can meet them. To see them received with positivity and encouragement really does speak volumes on how attitudes towards women's needs and rights have developed over the past 6-7 decades. This is truly encouraging to see.

This lunch, was positive in a similar way, celebrating the success and achievements of each other, but also offering support and encouragement to see where 2024 will take them, and how much more we are excited to see each other achieve by this time next year.

I am so grateful to F-Entrepreneur and Small Business Britain for inviting me to be part of such an inspiring and significant event. I can't wait to see what next International Women's Day will have in store for us all. Together, we can inspire and achieve so, so much.

Happy International Women's Day.
